CS Muturi has recently come under scrutiny for his repeated criticism of President William Ruto's Kenya Kwanza government.

Muturi clashed with the government after alleging that National Intelligence Service (NIS) Director-General Noordin Haji was responsible for the abduction of his son, Leslie Muturi, during the June 2024 Gen Z-led demonstrations.

Muturi recalled feeling helpless at the time and seeking assistance from then-Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki to locate his son.

He stated that Kindiki contacted NIS Director-General Noordin Haji regarding Leslie's whereabouts, but Haji denied involvement.

Muturi stated that his son was released by those allegedly holding him hostage only after the president intervened.

During an interview with Al Jazeera on Thursday, February 27, MP Ichung’wah dismissed Muturi’s claims.

Dismissing Muturi's account, Ichung'wah claimed that the CS has personal issues with the president.

He added that the CS had taken a confrontational stance against the government he serves, possibly knowing he could soon be removed from the Cabinet.

"Have you heard from President Ruto or the Director of Intelligence Service? That's why I told you CS Muturi is a politician and has beef with his boss," Ichung'wah noted.

He stated that there were reasons behind Muturi’s transfer from the Attorney General’s office to his current position, adding that those same reasons could lead to his removal from President Ruto’s Cabinet.

"There are reasons why Muturi is probably on his way out," Ichung'wah argued.

During the same interview, Ichung'wah struggled to defend the Kenya Kwanza government.

Ichung’wah was frequently pressed on the number of promises the Ruto-led administration has fulfilled since taking office in 2022.

He refrained from providing an exact figure but emphasised the government’s commitment to fulfilling its manifesto gradually.

Ichung’wah also addressed questions about the government’s response to the June 2024 Gen Z protests, which resulted in deaths and forced disappearances. He argued that some demonstrations in the country can escalate into violence, leading to fatalities.

The outspoken politician defended President Ruto, asserting that he has not lost popularity among Kenyans. He argued that it is pointless for people to harbour any resentment toward the Ruto administration.
