Kenya is set to deepen its diplomatic and trade relations with Morocco as it works to improve the current trade imbalance between the two countries.

Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Musalia Mudavadi is visiting the Kingdom of Morocco from May 25 to May 27, 2025.

During his trip, he will hold high-level meetings to explore ways of enhancing bilateral cooperation.

The visit follows an earlier invitation from Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nasser Bourita, which had been postponed.

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs said Mudavadi will seek to open discussions aimed at increasing Kenya’s exports to Morocco.

“Currently, the trade balance favours Morocco. Kenya exports goods worth around Sh480 million, mainly tea, coffee, textiles, fruits, and vegetables. In contrast, imports from Morocco — including fertilizers, oils, and aircraft parts — are valued at about Sh12.1 billion,” the ministry noted.

Mudavadi is also expected to meet Morocco’s Head of Government and Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch.

The meeting will focus on strengthening cooperation between the two countries, which established diplomatic ties in 1965.

While in Morocco, Mudavadi will officially open the Kenya Embassy in Rabat. The mission began operations in December 2023 as part of Kenya’s efforts to boost its diplomatic presence in North Africa.

He will also hold sector-specific talks with Moroccan ministers responsible for agriculture and trade.

Several agreements are expected to be signed during the visit, including a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on housing and another between Kenya’s Foreign Service Academy and Morocco’s Diplomatic Academy.
