Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has hosted a high-level delegation from Huawei Kenya, led by Chief Executive Officer Gao Fei, to explore new avenues for Public–Private Partnerships (PPPs) that will accelerate Kenya’s digital transformation and national development.

During the meeting, both parties underscored a shared vision between the Government of Kenya and Huawei to harness technology and innovation for inclusive growth, job creation, and improved public service delivery.

“Partnerships like these are essential to bridging the digital divide, empowering our youth with jobs, and delivering quality public services through innovation,” said the Deputy President.

The Deputy President commended Huawei’s investment in ICT education through its ICT Academy, which collaborates with over 50 local institutions to equip students and trainers with globally recognized digital skills and certifications.

The meeting also featured National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, who highlighted the need to close Kenya’s digital divide through focused investment and training.

Speaker Wetang’ula stated, “The Huawei Kenya team briefed the Deputy President on the strides they are making to empower Kenyan students. This includes equipping them with critical digital competencies through the Huawei ICT Academy, where certified instructors train learners in areas such as cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and other emerging technologies,” said Speaker Wetang’ula.

Building on the Kenya AI & Cloud Pioneer Initiative launched in May 2025, the two sides discussed expanding AI-ready data centres, cloud platforms, and smart digital government systems to support national innovation and enhance service delivery.

Huawei’s role in modernizing Kenya’s energy grid and expanding rural internet access was highlighted as central to the government’s goal of achieving universal connectivity and developing smart, tech-enabled public infrastructure.

The discussions reinforced Kenya’s commitment to leveraging PPPs as a means of national transformation. By aligning public policy with private sector innovation, the country aims to become a regional digital leader and ensure equitable access to digital opportunities.

Kindiki stated that the Kenyan Government is committed to working with strategic partners like Huawei to create an enabling environment for innovation and to ensure that no citizen is left behind in the country’s digital journey.

The meeting concluded with Huawei Kenya reaffirming its commitment to expanding digital inclusion, skills development, and infrastructure support in line with government priorities.
