Kennedy Agyapong is calm because the case has not ended yet - Lawyer
He indicated that Mr Agyapong’s calmness is on the back of the fact that the case has not yet concluded.
He described Anas’ vindication claim as preposterous. In the view of Mr Amoh Darteh, Anas is celebrating over nothing.
Anas Aremeyaw Anas had said that he had been vindicated after securing a significant legal victory in the Essex County Superior Court in New Jersey, USA.
The court delivered a unanimous verdict, holding Kennedy Agyapong, a former Ghanaian Member of Parliament, liable for defamation and awarding damages of $18 million.
“This decision is not merely a legal triumph—it is a resounding affirmation that falsehood and character assassination have no place in our society,” Anas stated following the ruling.
He emphasized that the verdict strengthens the fight for democracy and accountability, ensuring that those in positions of power cannot recklessly attack journalists without consequences.
Anas highlighted the stark contrast between the justice he received in the United States and his experience in Ghana.
In 2018, despite Agyapong’s own admission of lacking evidence for his claims, an Accra High Court ruling dismissed Anas’ case and instead vilified him. The ruling was later condemned by Supreme Court Justice Kulendi, who described it as a “violent abuse of judicial authority.”
But speaking to Accar-based Class FM, one of Mr Kennedy Agyapon’s lawyers in Ghana, said “I am very surprised, this is very preposterous to see Anas and his group on Facebook sending unnecessary messages whole the process has not concluded so all I will say for now is that people should just relax and let us see the outcome of the matter after its conclusion.
“So we are not worried, honourable Kennedy Agyapong is not worried because it is a court process also let the process conclude, when it is fully matured we will also see the outcome. Anas is just walking around jubilating for nothing.”|
He added “In simple terms in law, there cannot be an award when there is no judgement. There is no judgment so there cannot be an award, a judgment has not been entered so how can people be talking about 18 million Dollars? That is the case, if there is no judgment there cannot be an award. Now there is a motion for a mistrial that the judge is going to give in 30 days.”
“Right now there is no conclusion, the case is not concluded yet, there is no judgment and if there is no judgment there cannot be an award,” Mr Amoh Darteh said.
