Kefas approves issuance of appointment letters to over 2,000 aides
Taraba State governor, Dr Agbu Kefas, has approved the commencement of appointment letter issuance to over 2,000 aides whose appointments were announced nearly a year ago.
The announcement was made in a statement yesterday by the Secretary to the Government of the State (SGS), GebonKataps.
According to the statement, the distribution of appointment letters and documentation will begin today, June 3, 2025.
Appointees are directed to report to the Political Department at the SGS office to collect their appointment letters and complete the required documentation.
The process comes months after the inauguration of chairpersons and members of boards and parastatals, Special Advisers, Senior Special Assistants, and Community Special Assistants byKefas. Despite being appointed nearly eleven months ago, the aides had not received formal documentation until now.
The SGS also outlined procedures for appointees who are currently serving in the civil service, saying: “By Section 192(4) and Section 196(3) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), and Public Service Rule (PSR 030423), civil servants appointed to statutory commissions or as special advisers must resign, withdraw, or retire from the service before receiving their appointment letters,” the statement read.
Appointed to other political positions who intend to return to the civil service after their tenure were, as well, asked to apply for a Leave of Absence through the Head of Civil Service, as stipulated in PSR 100236.
Failure to do so, the statement warned, would be regarded as absconding from duty.
This development is seen by many Tarabans, who spoke with The Guardian, as a major step in the governor’s broader administrative reforms aimed at enhancing the efficiency and structure of governance in the state.
