With the countdown to the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) gathering pace, Kenya has taken a major step forward by officially handing over the refurbished Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, to the Local Organising Committee (LOC), BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The stadium, which underwent significant upgrades, is set to serve as Kenya's flagship venue for the tournament and will host the competition's final on August 30.
Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Sports, Salim Mvurya, led the symbolic handover ceremony, describing it as a “crucial milestone” in the country's preparations to host the 8th edition of CHAN.
“This is not just a proud moment for Kenya but for the entire East African region,” Mvurya said.
“It underlines our capability to host world-class events and paves the way for future tournaments, including the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).”
The iconic Kasarani Stadium will be the stage for all Group A matches, featuring host nation Kenya, alongside DR Congo, Morocco, Angola, and Zambia.
