The Labour Party (LP) Senatorial candidate for Southern Kaduna in the 2023 general elections, Michael Ayuba Auta, Monday, formally joined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Auta, who was instrumental in LP’s performance during the last elections, pledged to deliver one million votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Kaduna state governor, Uba Sani, in the 2027 elections.

Speaking during his defection at Fai Ward in Jaba local government area, Auta attributed his decision to the realities on the ground and calls from his people. He praised President Tinubu and Governor Sani for creating an inclusive environment and restoring peace in Southern Kaduna.

“This government has given us a sense of belonging. Today, our people can go to their farms and businesses without fear. Unlike the previous administration, President Tinubu and Governor Sani have united us rather than segregate us,” he said.

Auta also highlighted the appointment of Gen. Christopher Musa as Chief of Defence Staff as a signal that the Tinubu administration is committed to the region’s development.

Recalling his political influence, Auta said, “In 2023, without government backing, I secured 294,000 votes for Peter Obi. If I could achieve that as an opposition figure, imagine what we can accomplish in 2027. I am confident of delivering one million votes for President Tinubu and Governor Sani. APC now has no issues in Southern Kaduna.”

The defection was met with excitement among APC supporters. Fai ward chairman, Hon. Dare Isuwa, described the event as a turning point for the party in the region.

“He has worked for this party before, and now that he is back, APC will only grow stronger. His influence is unmatched, and we are confident he will deliver on his promises,” Isuwa said while presenting Auta with his membership card.

Auta’s associate, Hon. Elisha Yahaya, also spoke on his defection, alleging that the LP had betrayed Auta despite his contributions to building the party’s structure in Kaduna and other states.
