Kabir Khan Reveals Behind-the-Scenes Details of Bollywood Films

In the fifth episode of The Filmy Hustle, hosted by Akshaye Rathi, Kabir Khan discussed his journey and the making of his films. He shared insights into Ek Tha Tiger (2012), starring Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif, revealing that Salman Khan’s iconic silhouette shot was not initially in the script. Kabir explained that it was a spontaneous reaction to the location he discovered on the Turkey-Syria border, known for its unique brown mud houses on a hill. He wanted to capture Tiger in silhouette against this backdrop, leading to a memorable shot that resonated with audiences.

Kabir Khan elaborated on how the scarf became an integral part of Tiger’s character. He mentioned that he always wore a scarf while shooting in Afghanistan and during the look test for Ek Tha Tiger, he felt something was missing. He then removed his scarf and gave it to Salman, who put it on, instantly completing the character's look. This spontaneous decision turned the scarf into an iconic symbol associated with Tiger.

Kabir Khan also recounted his experience making Kabul Express with Yash Raj Films (YRF). Initially, corporate companies were hesitant about the film, questioning its feasibility. Despite having John Abraham, Arshad Warsi, and Naseeruddin Shah on board, securing funding was challenging. One producer even suggested casting Arjun Rampal to make the film a 'pre-Friday' success, but Kabir couldn't even get Arjun's manager's number.

Eventually, Aditya Chopra contacted Kabir after reading his script. Kabir initially doubted the call, suspecting it was a prank by MTV. However, he met with Aditya Chopra, who expressed interest in making the film. Kabir recalled the moment Aditya Chopra said, 'I read your script and it moves well. When can we make it?' This marked the beginning of Kabul Express with YRF.
