Speaking late Monday, Trump revealed that both countries have agreed to a phased ceasefire that will begin within six hours.
Under the terms, Iran will initiate the first period, followed by Israel after 12 hours, leading to a complete end to hostilities after 24 hours.
The deal is expected to bring an end to nearly two weeks of escalating violence that has drawn international concern and military tensions across the region.
In a statement, Trump hailed the agreement as a “significant diplomatic breakthrough,” praising both Iran and Israel for showing restraint and determination to avoid a prolonged war.
“CONGRATULATIONS TO EVERYONE! It has been fully agreed by and between Israel and Iran that there will be a Complete and Total CEASEFIRE (in approximately 6 hours from now, when Israel and Iran have wound down and completed their in-progress, final missions!), for 12 hours, at which point the War will be considered ENDED!” Trump declared.
The U.S. president further explained that during each side’s ceasefire window, the opposing party is expected to remain peaceful and respectful.
He added that if all goes according to plan, both countries will formally end hostilities after 24 hours, officially closing what he dubbed “THE 12 DAY WAR.”
Trump credited both nations for preventing what could have turned into a long, devastating conflict.
“This is a war that could have gone on for years and destroyed the entire Middle East, but it didn’t — and never will!” Trump said, expressing gratitude to the leaders of Israel and Iran for their “stamina, courage, and intelligence.”
“God bless Israel, God bless Iran, God bless the Middle East, God bless the United States of America, and God bless the world!” he added.
The announcement comes just hours after Trump condemned
According to the president, Iran fired 14 missiles in response to recent U.S. strikes on Iranian nuclear sites, but 13 were intercepted, and the remaining missile posed no serious threat.
