The Africa Export Import Bank (Afreximbank) has appointed Dr. George Elombi as its President

Afreximbank’s shareholders appointed Dr. Elombi as the Bank’s President and Chairman of the Board of Directors at the end of the Annual General Meeting of the Bank effective September 2025.

A Cameroonian national and executive, Dr. Elombi has been with the Bank since 1996, rising through the ranks to become Executive Vice President, Governance, Legal and Corporate Services.

He succeeds Prof. Benedict Oramah, who has led the Bank since 2015.

Dr. Elombi brings a deep understanding of the Bank’s mission and structure, having played a central role in shaping Afreximbank Group’s structure, legal and institutional frameworks, expanding its capital base, and leading crisis response efforts across Africa and the Caribbean.

In his acceptance speech, Elombi said, “I see Afreximbank as a force for industrialising Africa and for regaining the dignity of Africans wherever they are,”
