Junior Firpo, Joe Rodon react to Joel Piroe's Leeds message after West Brom

, netted after just nine minutes but Daniel Farke’s side could not keep the lead for long as Darnell Furlong headed home the equaliser before half-time.

The Whites had plenty of chances to score a winner at Elland Road, though one player who struggled to get involved for Leeds was Piroe, who finished the game without taking a single shot.

With Sheffield United beating QPR, the gap at the top of the Championship table has closed to just three points, with Chris Wilder’s side attempting to leapfrog the Whites into first.

Taking to Instagram [1 March], Piroe wrote: “3 big games, 7 points. Not the maximum, but we look back on some great team performances and all is in our own hands,” with a white heart and prayer emojis. Defenders Firpo and Rodon both liked the message.

Seven points from Sunderland, Sheffield United and West Brom should certainly be seen as a positive, especially as the middle of those games meant taking a lead on the Blades.

Getting promoted to the Premier League this season is, obviously, the most important aim for the Whites this season, but lifting the Championship trophy would not be a bad addition.

Piroe is just one of a number of stars firing on all cylinders, with Dan James, Manor Solomon and Brenden Aaronson all getting amongst the goals, but it was a struggle against the Baggies on this occasion.

Leeds are currently leading the Championship title race.

It is normal for teams to struggle against certain opposition, and with how well-drilled West Brom have been under Tony Mowbray, it was no surprise to see Farke’s players struggle somewhat.

With 11 games of the league campaign remaining, and no other competitions to worry about anymore, there should be no excuse for missing out on promotion like last season.

Just mentioning the 1-0 defeat to Southampton in the play-off final will frustrate supporters, so Farke cannot afford for his side to drop out of the automatic promotion spots this term.
