June's most anticipated television releases - The Chronicle

As culture continues to grapple with the future of streaming services, live television, and the place of traditionally formatted television seasons, there is a seemingly endless amount of content to consume. With the summer beginning, let’s take a look at some of the highly anticipated television show releases happening this month!

- Season 5, June 5, Disney+

The first two episodes of “Phineas and Ferb” to air in 10 years will premiere on Disney Channel on June 5th, and all 10 episodes will appear on Disney+ the following day. In this classic, nostalgic show, the titular characters try to get all they can out of their summer vacation — like maybe… . This season contains only 10 of the ordered 40 episodes for the revival, so fans can be sure that more of Phineas and Ferb’s antics are on the way in the future.

- Season 1, June 18th, Amazon Prime Video

“We Were Liars” will be released in one eight-episode binge-able drop on Prime Video. The show is based on the 2014 psychological thriller novel of the same name by E. Lockhart. The show will follow Cady Sinclair, a 17-year old daughter of an extremely wealthy family, as she struggles to remember what happened to her following a mysterious accident.

- Season 3, June 22nd, HBO Max

“The Gilded Age,” which received six Emmy nominations for its second season, will be returning with a third season on June 22. Episodes will be released weekly through August 10he show follows a young woman, Marian Brook (Louisa Jacobson), in NYC’s rigid social class system in the early 1880s. 

- Miniseries, June 24th, Disney+

“Ironheart” is the highly-anticipated television show based on Marvel Comics’ Riri Williams, an MIT student who creates a suit of armor reminiscent of, though perhaps stronger than, Tony Stark’s own Iron Man. This show will conclude Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and it takes place following the events of 2022’s “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.” The first three episodes of the miniseries will be released on June 24th, with the remaining three episodes being released weekly on Tuesdays. 

- Season 4, June 25, Hulu

All ten episodes of season four of “The Bear,” starring Jeremy Allen White, will be released on Hulu together on June 25th. The preceding seasons have received much critical and popular acclaim — winning a total of 21 Emmys. White stars as Chef Carmy Berzatto, who must manage and transform his deceased brother’s sandwich shop.

-  Season 3, June 27, Netflix

The third and final season of “Squid Game,” the South Korean dystopian thriller that took the world by storm in 2021, will be released on Netflix on June 27th. The show revolves around a contest where people must play deadly children’s games in order to win money. The show became so popular that even Duke Athletics used “Squid Game” graphics in promotional materials prior to the Duke Men’s Basketball game on December 17th of 2024.

Some other shows to check out in June include “Stick” (AppleTV+, June 4), a new sports comedy starring Owen Wilson; season 3 of “Ginny & Georgia” (Netflix, June 5), where the titular daughter and mother try to adapt to life in a small northeastern town; “The Survivors” (Netflix, June 6), a new Australian drama based on Jane Harper’s 2020 novel of the same name; and the second season of “America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders” (Netflix, June 18), the documentary following the NFL team’s cheerleaders.
