Judiciary Sends Condolence Message to Albert Ojwang's Family, Puts Police on the Spot over Brutality

The Judiciary has finally broken its silence over the increased cases of police brutality in the country.

In a statement seen by, the Judiciary spokesperson Paul Ndemo first expressed sympathies to the family of blogger Albert Ojwang' who died in custody at the Central Police Station.

The Judiciary further wished a quick recovery to Boniface Kariuki and other Kenyans who were injured during protests as a result of police brutality.

"The events of the past weeks have tested the conscience of our nation. The Judiciary extends its deepest condolences to the family of Albert Ojwang. We also wish a quick and full recovery to those who have been injured during recent protests," the statement read in part.

Additionally, the arm of the government expressed concerns over the rising cases of police brutality and the trend of protests being infiltrated by goons who disrupt peaceful assemblies and endanger the lives of protestors.

Ndemo added that the National Police Service (NPS) has a responsibility to identify and bring to book the perpetrators as well as those who sponsor such violence.

"The National Police Service bears a constitutional and legal duty to identify, apprehend, and prosecute such individuals, as well as those who sponsor or orchestrate these acts of violence," he said.

The spokesperson asserted that the Judiciary remains committed to its constitutional mandate of upholding justice once the cases are presented in the courts.

Ndemo explained that the reason why he was the one conveying the message was in order to protect impartiality and the independence of the Judicial process.
