Josuha Guilavogui apologises to Daniel Farke after Leeds United clash

Eyebrows were raised when Joe Rothwell and Pascal Struijk were brought on to chase the game, replacing Ilia Gruev and Ao Tanaka, but it turned out to be a masterstroke at Elland Road.

The duo combined to score a much-needed equaliser as Struijk latched onto the midfielder’s free-kick, and Keith Hackett was adamant that the Leeds goal deserved to stand despite a push in the box.

They teamed up yet again in the fifth minute of added time, though Guilavogui could only watch on from the bench as Leeds jumped back to the top of the Championship table.

With the Whites managing to claim all three points in a 2-1 thriller, the excitement was clearly too much for the French veteran, with his manager ending up on the turf amidst the madness at Elland Road.

This prompted a hilarious moment, one which he jokingly apologised for on social media, with both parties caught up in the post-match celebrations.

Taking to X [18 February], Guilavogui wrote: “From experience, nothing happens by chance. For our supporters, our families, the staff, the employees

“Leeds United and everyone who believes in us, we will give it our all until the end of the season. P.S. Sorry, Coach, for the energy, but the emotion was just too strong!”

Supporters at Elland Road are often running on emotions following a Leeds clash, especially at home, and there is no telling what the reaction would have been had Sunderland walked away with the win.

The likes of Joel Piroe, Dan James, Manor Solomon and Brenden Aaronson all struggled to make the desired impact in the final third, with Farke calling upon his bench members.

Guilavogui, however, was not chosen to take to the field as the Whites chased a goal against the Black Cats, and it has already been suggested that he may never play for the team again.

The 34-year-old has just two starts to his name since arriving at Elland Road last October, both coming in the FA Cup and seemingly struggling to keep up with the pace of the game.

With Tanaka and Gruev already keeping Rothwell out of the Leeds team, Farke has more than enough options in the middle of the park, but Guilavogui offers incredible knowledge, just like Patrick Bamford.
