SALDANHA BAY - It is week three of Joshlin Smith kidnapping and human trafficking trial.

The State's key witness, Lourentia Lombaard continued with her evidence-in-chief despite becoming emotional and had to be taken out of court.

The State has, to date, called 18 witnesses with more to come.

Lombaard was initially arrested with Joshlin's mother, Kelly, her boyfriend Jacquin Appollis and their friend Steveno van Rhyn.

The State says they were all involved in the disappearance of the then-six-year-old.

Lombaard was, however, cleared last year and became a Section 204 state witness and charges against her were dropped.

She told the court that Smith told her that she sold her daughter to a sangoma. Smith was meant to share the R20,000 received amongst the four of them.

Lombaard says that she did not receive a cent. Before concluding her evidence, she told the court that Smith was paid to keep quiet about what happened to Joshlin.

Meanwhile, Smith's sister, a police officer based in the Northern Cape had the court's attention.

She says Smith was inconsolable when she spoke about Joshlin's disappearance. She also said that Smith knew where her child was in the informal settlement and that somebody wanted to sell her.

Lombaard’s cross-examination continues on Monday.
