Jewel Loyd: 'When I think of the Aces, I think of excellence'
Las Vegas Aces President Nikki Fargas and Aces new acquisition Jewel Loyd sat down detailing everything from the direction of the Aces this season to how the trade went proceeded.
You could feel the excitement from both Fargas and Loyd.
“We’re thrilled about having Jewel Loyd on the Aces. She’s a championship-caliber player. Jewel is a great defender. Her versatility lends to that. Jewel makes people around her better,” Fargas said, “We’re just super excited about where we’re able to go with a player of Jewel’s caliber.”
Loyd mentioned her the word “excited” three times at the chance to play with the Aces in a new atmosphere.
“I am super excited to be a part of this organization. Super excited to join this roster. My family is super excited,” Loyd said,
Loyd looks forward to learning from her teammates and adding elements to her game. She especially mentioned learning from Chelsea Gray.
She also mentioned how it was going to feel to play alongside A’ja Wilson, widely considered one of the best players in the world.
“It’s not too often you get to play in the best league in the world with your friends,” Loyd said.
Loyd and Wilson got a taste of being teammates on the USA Women’s Basketball team during the 2024 Olympics.
When asked about leaving Seattle and being able to leave on her own terms, Loyd said she relied on people she trusted.
“I mean, this whole process has just been leaning on the people that have cared for me,” Loyd said, “Family, friends, just locking into what’s next.”
“I’ve been through a lot of adversity in my life, you know that’s human, you’re not just going to go through one thing, you go up and down, but it’s all about what you stand on,” Loyd continued. “I stand on my faith; I stand on the people who’ve been with me, and that’s what I’ve been trying to get to. I want to get back to me, I want to have this joy about myself, this joy about the way I play, and be around people that can help me with that.”
It’s safe to say that everyone in the Aces organization, and the Aces community are excited for their Jewel this season.
