JD Vance Promotes Bitcoin at Las Vegas Conference

The Trump administration's strong commitment to cryptocurrency was prominently featured at the Bitcoin 2025 Conference in Las Vegas on Wednesday, where Vice President JD Vance and President Donald Trump's sons, Eric and Donald Trump Jr., addressed attendees. They enthusiastically promoted cryptocurrency and pledged their efforts to foster a supportive regulatory landscape, signaling that the Trump regime is fully embracing digital currencies.
Vice President JD Vance, in his speech, highlighted the Trump administration's commitment to bitcoin and emerging currencies, terming crypto as a 'ground-up' technology rather than a bad one. He emphasized the administration's dedication to nurturing their growth and integration. This stance was further reinforced by the presence and endorsements from key figures within the Trump administration at the conference.
Vance extended his gratitude to notable figures in the crypto space, including Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss, longtime crypto investors who made significant donations to the crypto super PAC Fairshake during the 2024 election cycle. Vance acknowledged their early support for President Trump, noting that many in Silicon Valley were initially nervous, and credited the Winklevoss twins as "some of the first to really get on board." He also thanked Coinbase, an organizer of the Bitcoin 2025 Conference. The input notes that the SEC dropped its investigation into Coinbase about a month after Trump again took power. The text also mentions that the Trump regime has drawn criticism for dropping investigations into powerful people and companies seen as friendly to the president.
Addressing the regulatory environment, Vance assured the audience of his commitment to "eliminating the rules, the red tape, and the lawfare that we saw aimed at crypto by our predecessors," referring to the Biden administration. He acknowledged the crypto community's grievances from that period, with the community complaining during Joe Biden’s tenure that they were being unfairly targeted for being crooks. Vance himself holds "a fair amount of bitcoin," having previously reported holdings valued between $250,000 and $500,000 in financial disclosure paperwork filed in the summer of 2024, shortly before the election. It was not clear if the VP had purchased more or sold any since that disclosure almost a year ago.
A significant part of Vance's address focused on regulatory personnel. He specifically called out former SEC chairman Gary Gensler, long hated among crypto enthusiasts. Vance declared to the crowd, "Maybe the most important thing that we did for this community, we reject regulators and we fired Gary Gensler and we’re going to fire everybody like him," indicating a decisive shift in regulatory oversight and a promise to continue this approach.
President Trump's sons also contributed to the pro-crypto sentiment with bold predictions and hype. Eric Trump proclaimed, "Every single day, people are allocating billions and billions of dollars to it. You know, 0.1 Bitcoin is going to be worth an absolute fortune." At the time, 0.1 bitcoin was valued at about $10,700. Asked by a moderator what they thought bitcoin’s price would be by 2026, Eric Trump said "the moon," while his brother Donald Jr. predicted it would land somewhere between 150,000 and 175,000 dollars. The current price of Bitcoin was reported to be hovering around $107,900, near an all-time high.
Eric Trump also made a passing reference to his father’s company, Trump Media, the owner of Truth Social, which had just announced plans for a $2.5 billion investment in a bitcoin treasury this week. Reinforcing the bullish outlook and aiming to pump up the price, Eric Trump insisted, "everyone wants it, nobody wants to get rid of it."
The Bitcoin 2025 Conference was set to feature other speakers on its final day, Thursday, including Paolo Ardoino, the head of stablecoin company Tether. Ross Ulbricht, the founder of the infamous darknet market Silk Road, who was sentenced to life in prison and served 11 years before being pardoned by Donald Trump, was also slated to speak.
