The Kioo hit maker recalled getting deported from the United States and hiding in shame upon returning to Kenya.
Speaking during an interview on Kameme FM with radio host Muthoni wa Kirumba, Jaguar took listeners down memory lane, sharing how his dream of a better life in America came crashing down after a misunderstanding with immigration officials.
He recalled how excited he was to travel abroad, packing six large bags filled with foodstuffs for his relatives in the US.
However, he failed to understand that he needed to declare those items and provide a clear explanation of his travel plans.
"While in the air, they announced we were entering US airspace. That’s when I was told I had to declare what I had and where I was going. I only knew I was going to America not the specifics. At Detroit, I said I was heading to Maryland to see a promoter, but I didn’t have enough documentation. They told me the way I was packed, it looked like I had no plans to return. Even photos of my girlfriend were used as evidence against me," Jaguar narrated.
After being deported, Jaguar returned to Kenya quietly, but facing the public after telling everyone he was in the US was a different battle.
"People really laughed at me. I was so ashamed that I asked my aunt to hide me. I couldn’t let anyone see me, not with that kind of humiliation," he said.
However, his aunt’s patience wore thin.
"One day, she snapped and told me to get out and look for a job like any other man. I cried. I felt like my life had come to an end," Jaguar admitted emotionally.
That moment led him to travel to Tanzania, where he visited a friend’s music studio and ended up meeting other musicians like Lady Jay Dee.
The experience inspired him to release his first hit song.
Jaguar also confessed that part of his plan in going to the US was to find a white woman to marry, a dream he hoped would change his life for the better.
"I believed that once I landed in America, all my problems would disappear. I thought I’d find a white woman to marry and start a new life," he added.
