Is Donald Trump pushing for faster mass deportations of illegal immigrants? ICE director removed amid Pres

Donald Trump’s mission to deport millions of undocumented immigrants has just claimed its first high-profile casualty. Caleb Vitello, the acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), has been reassigned—a move insiders say was triggered by the president’s growing frustration over the pace of deportations.

Just weeks into his return to the White House, Trump is demanding faster results in what he has repeatedly vowed will be the “largest deportation program in history.” But as the machinery of mass deportation grinds into motion, it appears Trump is not satisfied with the speed of removals—leading to a major shake-up at ICE.

Even before returning to the Oval Office, Trump promised to expel “millions and millions” of undocumented immigrants from the U.S. Since being sworn in, he has wasted no time signing multiple executive orders aimed at escalating deportations.

Trump has reportedly directed federal agencies—including the FBI, DEA, ATF, U.S. Marshals, and the Bureau of Prisons—to comb through their databases for undocumented migrants, identify them, and swiftly remove them.

According to ICE statistics, within four days of Trump taking office, over 1,000 people had already been deported or repatriated. On January 26, another 956 arrests were made across Chicago, Newark, and Miami.

Yet, despite these numbers, Trump is reportedly “angry” that deportations are not happening fast enough.

The president’s frustration has resulted in ICE Director Caleb Vitello being reassigned to a different role. According to a Department of Homeland Security spokesperson, an unannounced replacement is expected to “double down” on enforcement efforts.

A source told Politico that Vitello’s new position will still involve tracking down and deporting undocumented individuals, but he will no longer be leading ICE’s overall strategy.

The White House has yet to announce a new chief to oversee Trump’s aggressive deportation plan, leaving uncertainty about how far—and how fast—the administration will push its immigration crackdown.

A White House spokesperson defended the administration’s approach, blaming the Biden administration’s “incompetence” for the state of immigration enforcement.

"Hundreds of violent, predatory, and gang-affiliated criminal illegal aliens have already been rounded up and deported by ICE since President Trump took office," said White House official Kush Desai. He added that the administration is “aligned on securing our borders” and ensuring mass deportations are conducted “quickly and effectively” in line with Trump’s “America First” agenda.

While deportations have ramped up dramatically under Trump, his removal of ICE’s acting director raises a chilling question: Is Trump pushing for even swifter and harsher expulsions?

With millions of undocumented individuals in the U.S., and ICE already ramping up arrests, the next leader of the agency could determine just how extreme Trump’s immigration crackdown will become.
