Iranian Parliament Speaker urges U.S. to abandon Netanyahu's influence in nuclear talks

Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad-Baqer Qalibaf has called on the United States to abandon the failed policies of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu if it genuinely seeks a nuclear agreement with Iran.

According to IRNA, speaking at a parliamentary session on Sunday, Qalibaf responded to U.S. President Donald Trump's insistence on zero uranium enrichment in any nuclear deal with Iran. He reaffirmed Iran’s right to enrichment as a signatory to the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and dismissed Washington’s stance as a mere reflection of Israeli interests.

“If the U.S. president truly wants a deal, he must change his approach and stop following Netanyahu’s failed opinions,” Qalibaf declared.

He also referenced the recent U.S. proposal Iran received via Oman on May 31, arguing that it lacks provisions for lifting sanctions—an omission he said highlights Washington’s contradictory and insincere negotiating stance.

“The U.S. speaks of economic relief for Iran, yet in practice, it aims to deprive us of our international right to enrichment while refusing to commit to sanctions removal. Such a one-sided agreement is logically unacceptable,” he added.

Qalibaf stressed Iran’s commitment to addressing economic challenges domestically, leveraging its own resources to push the U.S. toward a fair and balanced agreement.

Uranium enrichment remains a central sticking point in ongoing indirect negotiations between Tehran and Washington, which commenced in mid-April and have so far involved five rounds of Oman-mediated talks.

Iran maintains that any future agreement must guarantee both the lifting of sanctions and its right to enrichment, underscoring the importance of fair and reciprocal negotiations.
