Apple unveiled the next-generation iOS 26 version of the operating system at
WWDC 2025
. This new version of the OS brings the new ‘Liquid Glass’ design, enhanced Apple Intelligence, and major system upgrades. All new features of iOS 26 are available for testing starting today by developers through the
Apple Developer Program
at developer.apple.com. A public beta version will be available for everyone next month at beta.apple.com. The all new iOS 16 roll out will begin in September after the iPhone 17 series launch. However, not all iPhones will receive the update.
Apple has officially ended support for the following models:
These three models, all launched in 2018 and powered by the A12 Bionic chip, will remain on iOS 18 as their final major operating system version. While Apple typically provides security updates for a period even after ending OS support, these iPhones will no longer receive the new features, performance enhancements, and visual changes introduced with iOS 26.
The A12 Bionic chip, while capable for its time, likely no longer meets the hardware requirements for the most demanding features in iOS 26, particularly those powered by the new Apple Intelligence initiatives.iOS 26 requires an A13 Bionic chip or later, meaning only iPhone 11 and newer will receive the update.
