Government Releases List of Alternative Health Facilities Amid Nurses Strike

A significant industrial action is underway in Ghana, as nurses and midwives are currently on strike. This strike action involves members of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA). In direct response to this situation and to mitigate its impact on public healthcare access, the Ghanaian government has announced measures. Specifically, the Ministry of Health (MoH) issued a public statement on June 10, 2025, addressing the strike and outlining steps for the public.

The Ministry of Health's communication strongly urged the general public to continue seeking health care services despite the ongoing strike. The MoH emphasized that medical attention can still be obtained “in health facilities across the country, including those where nursing services remain available, to ensure their health needs are met.” As the strike by the GRNMA progresses into its second week, the government has proactively shared a list of alternative healthcare providers to ensure continued service availability.

This list comprises medical facilities operating under the Christian Health Association of Ghana (CHAG). The Ministry of Health detailed that these CHAG facilities, which are managed by various faith-based organisations, are open and prepared to serve the public. The provided list specifically highlights the names of these health facilities and their respective locations across all 16 regions of the country, enabling citizens to find accessible care during the GRNMA strike.
