Jose Sa, Nelson Semedo and Portugal were celebrating Nations League glory on Sunday evening, after beating Spain in Munich.

Jorgen Strand Larsen and Matt Doherty were also in action over the weekend, with the internationals in full swing for the Old Gold squad.

Portugal’s Nations League final with Spain in Munich was a thriller and Wolves’ contingent were celebrating after the penalty shootout win. Both Sa and Semedo started on the bench but the full-back was brought on at half-time, with Spain winning 2-1. Cristiano Ronaldo levelled things up to send the final into extra time and then penalties. Portugal scored all five of their spot kicks and, after Alvaro Morata had missed for Spain, former Wolves hero Ruben Neves converted the decisive penalty to earn his country the Nations League title for the second time.

Norway increased their chances of reaching a World Cup for the first time since 1998 significantly with victory over Italy. Jorgen Strand Larsen started on the bench and watched on as his teammates put three past Italy – the group’s top seed. Strand Larsen did feature for the closing stages off the bench, as Norway made it three wins from three. Norway now have a goal difference of ten, 13 more than Italy, who they conclude their qualifying group against in November.

Like under Vitor Pereira, Matt Doherty was utilised on the right of a back three for the Republic of Ireland against Senegal recently. The defender played the first 67 minutes and saw Kasey McAteer give the hosts the lead in Dublin. Senegal eventually claimed a draw thanks to a late goal from Crystal Palace wide man Ismaila Sarr. The Wolves man will hope to add another cap to his tally when Ireland face Luxembourg in another friendly on Tuesday.
