In commemoration of International Women’s Day (IWD) 2025, First Lady Sen. Oluremi Tinubu has lauded women worldwide for their tenacity, diligence, and accomplishments. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the theme for IWD 2025 is “For ALL Women and Girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment.” Mrs. Tinubu used her message to encourage women to support each other, stating, “Today, on International Women’s Day, we celebrate the strength, resilience, and achievements of all women and girls across Nigeria and the world.” She emphasized the theme serves as a potent reminder to reaffirm the commitment to building a society where every woman and girl can thrive, free from discrimination and limitations, encouraging women to uplift each other.

Separately, the Katsina State Chapter of the Women Wing of Christians Association of Nigeria (WOWICAN), led by Chairperson Dr. Agatha Nyam, urged the state government to empower women through literacy education and skills acquisition, aiming to prevent them from being exploited as informants by bandits. Speaking on the sidelines of an event celebrating International Women’s Day 2025, Dr. Nyam highlighted the theme “Invest in Women. Accelerate Action,” stressing the need to address systemic barriers and biases against women and create opportunities for their full participation in all aspects of life. She advocated for equality, empowerment, and justice for women, appealing to the government to collaborate with women in contributing to national development.

Dr. Nyam called on individuals, groups, organizations, and communities to invest in women to accelerate progress towards a more equitable world. She remarked, “Despite our tight schedule and the ongoing fasting, we have not relented, we have come out to mark the day in prayers... We want women to be inclusive in governance, we want women to participate in the development and nation-building, we want women to participate in peacebuilding because without peace, there will not be a nation.” During the celebration, women were strongly advised to avoid ungodly acts and false teachings, encouraged to uphold their faith, and avoid sectionalism and tribalism for growth.
