UDAIPUR: Udaipur police Wednesday arrested a man who robbed, killed, and burned the dismembered body of an elderly woman in a crime he said was inspired by the movie ‘Drishyam’ and TV show ‘Crime Patrol’.Udaipur SP Yogesh Goyal stated that the case began with a missing person’s report filed on Feb 23 by Sunderlal about his elderly aunt, Chandi Bai, at Fatehnagar police station. Two months later, on April 22, an FIR was registered in this case under BNS and SC/ST Act. Assistant SP Manish Kumar took charge of the investigation. The investigation revealed that Chandi Bai was last seen near her home on Feb 22. Witnesses reported seeing her being taken away in asilver-colour van.

Further inquiries identified the van as belonging to Ramesh Lohar, who had a criminal record.Ramesh was detained and confessed to the crime, revealing that he was inspired by the movie ‘Drishyam’ and TV show ‘Crime Patrol’.On Jan 9, during a family event, Ramesh noticed Chandi Bai wearing jewellery and began planning the crime, he told police. On Feb 22, he lured her into his vanand drove around for hours, waiting for darkness.

He killed her with a wrench, stole her jewellery, and disposed of her body by dismembering and burning it at a dumping yard, scattering the remains to prevent discovery.Ramesh sold some of the stolen jewellery and melted others. His wife reported his obsession with ‘Drishyam’ and ‘Crime Patrol’.Digital evidence showed he repeatedly watched the movie and searched for related content. Ramesh attempted to mislead police by directing them to animal bones instead of human remains. The investigation led to the recovery of the stolen jewellery and the vehicle used in the crime. DNA analysis confirmed the identity of the remains as Chandi Bai’s.
