According to The Athletic, Amroim flew to Monaco on Friday, May 23, to meet with the club's top brass. The meeting takes place every month but doesn't usually involve the manager.
Reports add that he left having received the backing of minority owner, Sir Jim Ratcliffe. On Saturday, the Athletic reported that he told the squad he is staying. The Portuguese also considered walking away due to poor performances, including in the Europa League final.
This comes after the club concluded their worst Premier League season, where they finished 15th. They will also not play European football next season after losing the Europa League final to Tottenham Hotspur.
After the controversially beat Aston Villa on Sunday, May 25, Amorim promised Man United fans good times.
"After this disastrous season, I want to tell you the good days are coming. If there is one club in the world that proves in the past that it can overcome any situation, any disaster, it’s our club, it’s Manchester United Football Club," he said.
The former Sporting CP boss will be under pressure from the first game of next season. Any serious drop in form will put his job in jeopardy.

Amorim oversaw 17 defeats in 42 matches. The team’s poor home form sparked talks of relegation at one point.
Recruitment will be on the mind of the coach and fans in the next two months. Matheus Cunha will reportedly join from Wolves, but he won't be the only high-profile arrival.
The club needs more quality to improve its toothless attacking unit, heavily dependent on Bruno Fernandes.
Antony, Marcus Rashford, and Jadon Sancho are the likely major exits expected. The sale of the trio will fund more incomings. Amorim's 3.4-2-1 formation has not worked so far and he has insisted he won't change.
Therefore, players coming in will have to suit the style, or it risks putting the club in a relegation battle.
"If the board and the fans feel I’m not the right guy, I will go in the next day without any conversation about compensation, but I will not quit," Amorim said after they lost the Europa League. "I’m really confident about my job and, as you can see, I will not change anything in the way I do things."
Earlier, reported that Man United players begged Bruno Fernandes not to leave the club.
The Portuguese international said he is open to leaving the club after the Europa League final, but it appears he will be staying.
Reports in England say Man United players privately asked their captain to remain at Old Trafford.
