Indiana Basketball Lands Serbian Prospect Aleksa Ristic for 2025-26 Season

Indiana University's basketball program has bolstered its roster ahead of the 2025-26 season with the commitment of 6’4” guard Aleksa Ristic. Ristic, who is set to play with the Serbian U20 national team this summer, will join the Hoosiers with four years of college eligibility. His addition leaves Indiana with just one remaining scholarship slot, indicating a strategic move by Coach Darian DeVries and his staff.

Ristic brings significant professional experience to the collegiate level, having played three seasons in Serbia’s highest professional league. During his most recent season, he averaged an impressive 13.8 points, 4.2 assists, and 3.3 rebounds per game. A notable aspect of his offensive arsenal is his proficiency from beyond the arc, where he shot 38.6% from 3-point range, making him a potent scoring threat.

His playing style is characterized by versatility and intelligence. As a dynamic guard, Ristic excels as a passer and possesses exceptional 3-point range. His effectiveness is particularly evident when operating out of high ball screens, where he demonstrates a strong capability to use the screener to create separation for either a drive to the basket or a perimeter shot. He is adept at leveraging his height to shoot over smaller defenders after gaining a step or two. Furthermore, Ristic is not solely reliant on his on-ball skills; he can also play effectively off-ball, with his consistent shooting ensuring he cannot be left open on the perimeter.

While Ristic may not possess explosive athleticism off the dribble, his professional background suggests he has skills, particularly his shooting, that should translate immediately to the college game. This professional experience was likely a significant factor in DeVries's decision to pursue Ristic, especially given the ongoing scholarship situation. Prior to Ristic's commitment, Indiana had two open scholarships, pending the NCAA's decisions on appeals for an extra year of eligibility for Luke Goode and Anthony Leal. The decision to add Ristic now suggests that the coaching staff is likely not anticipating both waivers to be granted, ensuring the team's roster depth is adequately addressed.
