IMD issues yellow heat warning and thunderstorm alert

Kochi: The IMD has issued a yellow-level heat warning for six districts in the state on Sunday. The maximum temperature is likely to be 2-3˚C above normal in Kollam, Palakkad, Kozhikode, Pathanamthitta, Thrissur and Kannur districts.
Maximum temperatures are expected to be around 37˚C in Kollam, Palakkad and Kozhikode and 36˚C in Pathanamthitta, Thrissur and Kannur. Hot and humid weather is likely over these districts, except in hilly areas, due to high temperature and humidity.
On Saturday, Palakkad recorded a high of 36.7 degrees, followed by Punalur at 36.4 degrees and Kannur airport at 36 degrees. Thunderstorms with lightning are likely to occur at one or two places in Kerala from Tuesday to Thursday.
The IMD also issued a yellow alert for isolated heavy rainfall for Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam and Pathanamthitta districts on Tuesday.
