IMD issues yellow alert for Pune district today, rain likely in city this week

Pune: The city is likely to experience rain in the coming week as the Met department has issued a yellow alert for the Pune district.According to the forecast issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), thunderstorms and lightning with light rain are expected during the week.On Sunday, key weather stations in Pune, including Shivajinagar, Lohegaon, Pashan, NDA and Chinchwad, did not record rainfall. The Koregaon Park area recorded 0.5mm of rainfall.IMD has also issued a yellow alert for Monday for Ahilyanagar, Satara, Sangli, Kolhapur, Solapur, Beed, Nanded, Latur, and Dharashiv districts. The coastal areas of Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg also have a yellow warning for Monday.Met forecast states light or moderate rainfall at some places accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning over Konkan, Goa, Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada.

Heavy rainfall at isolated places is also likely over these areas.According to IMD, weather conditions are favourable for heavy showers in coastal areas."Increase in rainfall activity with isolated heavy falls is very likely over south peninsular India, the west coast, and northeastern states from June 10 and heavy to very heavy rainfall over Karnataka and Kerala from June 13," the weather report stated.Meanwhile, the catchment areas of the four dams — Khadakwasla, Varasgaon, Temghar and Panshet — recorded showers on Sunday.

The collective storage of the dams on Sunday was 5.46 TMC.
