IMANI VP Condemns Ex-Officials' Car Purchases | News Ghana
He demanded an immediate ban, calling it “despicable looting” that erodes public trust.
Bentil’s statement follows the recent arrest of former GIHOC Managing Director Maxwell Kofi Jumah, accused of stealing three state vehicles after leaving office. The incident occurred during the previous New Patriotic Party administration.
In a social media post, Bentil proposed strict reforms: retain sub-10-year vehicles for state fleets and auction older models publicly. “Ban the practice!!! Auction those above [10 years] to the public,” he reiterated, arguing this would curb asset mismanagement.
The criticism surfaces amid President Mahama’s National Democratic Congress government emphasizing accountability. Ghana’s vehicle procurement protocols have faced scrutiny across multiple administrations, with state assets often undervalued in sales to officials.
