Ibrahim Chatta Shares Emotional Story of Losing First Daughter to Poverty

Renowned Nollywood actor, Ibrahim Chatta, 54, has shared a profoundly painful chapter of his life, recounting the tragic loss of his first child due to his inability to settle hospital bills. During a recent interview with Abiola Orisile Events & Parties TV, Chatta described this experience as one of the most agonizing moments he has ever endured.

The veteran film star revealed that his infant daughter had been hospitalized, but he found himself in a desperate situation, unable to afford the necessary medical fees for her care. In a desperate bid to save his child, Chatta embarked on an arduous journey, trekking an astounding distance of nearly 10 kilometers across various parts of Lagos. He walked from Ijora-Badia to Itolo in Orile, then continued through Lawanson to Costain, and finally reached Makoko. These areas held a poignant significance for him, as they were places where he had once hawked puff-puff to earn a meager living.

Despite his tireless efforts and desperate search for funds, Chatta tragically failed to gather the required money in time. His beloved child passed away before he could return with the payment. Recalling the heartbreaking circumstances, Chatta stated, "My first child is not Malik. The first child I had died. The hospital requested payment for her care. I trekked from Ijora-Badia. From Badia, I trekked to Itolo in Orile. From there, I trekked across Lawanson to Costain. All the way to Makoko. Those were the places I used to hawk puff-puff. I did not get money until the child died."

The actor further revealed the extent of his destitution at the time, explaining that he could not even afford a proper casket for his daughter. Instead, she was buried in a modest manner, wrapped and laid to rest in an old wooden Coca-Cola crate. He emotionally recounted, "They buried her with the wooden Coca-Cola tray."

This deeply personal and sorrowful story remained a secret to many, including his own partner, until a recent trip to Dubai. Chatta shared that it was during this trip, after he had purchased a diamond anklet for their current daughter, that he decided to open up about his past. He recounted the moment: "The day I went to Dubai, I bought a diamond chain for the only girl to put on her leg. Her mother felt somehow, and said she was not the one who gave birth to her. I told her I had a female child before and explained how she died. They all cried. They have never heard that story from me."

Today, Ibrahim Chatta is a proud father of three children. Despite the profound grief he experienced, he expressed immense gratitude for his present fatherhood and his desire to expand his family further, stating, "I love all my children. God gave me three. But I want more children."
