Former Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, has stated that the outcome of the defamation case against him, which resulted in an $18 million fine slapped at him by a jury at the Essex County Superior Court in the US, has shaped him into a better person.

In a brief address on Thursday, March 27, 2025, upon his return to Ghana, he stated that his legal battle with investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, had been a learning experience.

"We should all stay calm, because anybody who decides to speak the truth and fight for the voices will go through all these. And through this, I have become a better person," he stated.

He also expressed gratitude to all his supporters for standing by him through the legal battle.

"Let me take this opportunity to thank all very much. This will inspire me to continue to do whatever I'm doing.

"This indicates that you appreciate every effort that I'm making to speak to the voice. Is that true?" he added.

A US court ruled in favour of Anas Aremeyaw Anas, awarding him $18 million in damages after finding that former Kennedy Agyapong defamed him.

The dispute traces back to Agyapong’s remarks following Anas’s 2018 BBC investigation into football corruption in Ghana.

In 2021, Kennedy Agyapong accused Anas of being a 'criminal' and falsely linked him to the murder of journalist Ahmed Hussein-Suale, who was killed in 2019.

On Tuesday, March 18, 2025, an eight-member jury in Essex County Superior Court upheld an earlier verdict, holding Agyapong liable for defamation.
