The former Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Mr Godfred Dame, has strongly refuted claims made by Dr Dominic Ayine, the current Attorney General, regarding the discontinuation of some high-profile criminal cases by the Office of the Attorney General.

Speaking at a press briefing on Wednesday, February 14, Mr Dame challenged Dr Dominic Ayine to produce any memorandum presented to him by the prosecution division of the office that advised or expressed a view on the consultation, discontinuation, or termination of any of the criminal cases in question.

“I challenge Dr Ayine to show any memorandum presented to him by the prosecution division advising on, or expressing any view regarding the consultation or discontinuation of any of the criminal cases he refers to,” Mr Dame said.

He added “I can say without any fear or contradiction that there is none.”

Mr Dame’s statement follows an earlier statement made by the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Dr Dominic Ayine, defending his decision to withdraw some high-profile criminal cases and enter nolle prosequi in others, stating that his actions are guided by constitutional principles, legal ethics, and professional integrity.

Dr Ayine suggested that there may have been insufficient consultation within the Attorney General’s office before certain cases were dropped, but Mr Dame firmly rejected these claims.

The former Attorney General further challenged Dr Ayine to provide any evidence of consultations regarding the charges that were held with the Director of Public Prosecutions before the cases were discontinued.

“You can be assured he cannot produce any,” Mr Dame added.
