Huffaz from 36 states, FCT storm Yobe for 6th Quranic recitation competition - Daily Trust

Quoran memorisers from the 36 states of Nigeria and the federal capital territory have arrived at Yobe State capital, Damaturu, for a national Quranic recitation competition holding on Saturday.

The Executive Secretary, Yobe State Arabic and Islamic Education Board (AISEB), Malam Umar Abubakar, said the event was organized by the Nigerian branch of Mohammed VI foundation for African Ulama and hosted by the Yobe State government.

The one-day competition would engage the participants on proficiency in full Quranic memorization in warash.

At the end of the competition, the winner will represent Nigeria at the Africa-wide grand finale which will take place in Morocco.

According to the secretary local organizing committee, Prof Adam Mustapha Jatkawy, the competition is aimed at nurturing Muslim youths in Nigeria and Africa on learning the holy book to shape their lives on earth and hereafter.

He said the Nigerian branch of foundation, under the President, Mufti Sheikh Sheriff Ibrahim Saleh Al-Hussaini, also brought Ulamas (scholars) together to promote peace and strengthen Islam in Africa.

Jatkawy also appreciated the Yobe State governor, Mai Mala Buni, for his “untiring efforts” in hosting various Quranic memorization and defending religious values.
