Published 3 days ago1 minute read

Suspected hoodlums have vandalised a transformer and stolen cables around the Dutse Uku community in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.  Residents revealed that the hoodlums took advantage of the heavy downpour on Monday night to perpetrate the act.

Daily Trust reports that Jos and its environs experienced heavy rains and strong winds that blew for hours, with various communities affected by the night’s rainfall.

Residents of the community condemned the incident, lamenting that the vandalism plunged them into darkness and prayed for the perpetrators to be exposed. They added that business and household activities have been disrupted.

Ibrahim Isa, a resident, said, “We are extremely unhappy with the situation. It was bad news for me when I learned about the vandalised transformer this morning. The development will affect business activities in the area, especially those that engage in welding and tailoring. We urge the community to be vigilant and appeal to authorities to help restore power.”

Daily Trust also reports that the heavy rains damaged houses and business centres, uprooting trees.

Yusuf Suleiman, a victim, lamented that the incident destroyed his house’s roofing, saying, “Restoring it will be costly since the zinc and other materials were damaged.”
