Homa Bay: Grief as Mother, Daughter Die as Lorry Collides With Boda Boda

The Monday, April 7, evening accident occurred at Sikri Trading Centre in Rachuonyo South Sub-County.

Citizen Digital reported that the accident, which involved a trailer and a motorcycle, left a mother and her daughter dead.

The victims, who were identified as Pamela Ondiek and her daughter, died on the scene, while the bodaboda rider suffered serious injuries after their motorcycle was hit.

Rachuonyo South Sub-county police commander Philemon Saera said preliminary investigations showed the speeding lorry hit the boda boda, which was carrying two passengers.

The police boss disclosed that the driver was arrested while attempting to escape after causing the accident.

Still in Homa Bay county, two delegates of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party died in an accident on Monday, April 7.

The terrible accident occurred after a motorbike collided with a truck at Arujo Bridge along Homa Bay –Rongo Road.

The victims, identified as Alfred Omollo and Collins Opiyo, were reportedly heading to Kabunde Social Hall, for the ODM grassroots elections.

Homa Bay Sub-county Police Commander Emmanuel Kiplagat confirmed the tragic incident, disclosing that the accident occurred when the lorry was attempting to overtake the motorcycle.

“The lorry driver had moved to the right side of the road to overtake, but unfortunately, he underestimated the distance with the oncoming motorcycle,” the Sub-county Police Commander revealed.

The tragic incident comes a few days after a horrible accident left 15 people dead and 14 others injured.

The terrible accident involving three vehicles occurred along the Kericho-Kaplong Road.

Bomet Traffic Commandant Amos Namasaka attributed the grisly accident to overspeeding and reckless driving.

The police boss said the personal car which was ferrying passengers from a party was being driven carelessly.

According to the police boss, the alone had some bottles of beer, indicating the driver might have been intoxicated at the time of accident.
