SAN SALVADOR (El Salvador) - Ralph Scott made history by just taking part in the Basketball Without Borders (BWB) Americas camp 2025, and the Bermuda talent ended up being named the Most Valuable Player of the event in San Salvador, El Salvador.
Scott, who plays his basketball at IMG Academy in Florida, is the son of Shanay Scott, a well-known figure in Bermudian women’s basketball and was the first Bermudian athlete to participate in the BWB Americas camp.
The 14th annual BWB Americas camp took place from May 30-June 2 at the Gimnasio Nacional José Adolfo Pineda in the El Salvador capital of San Salvador and featured 30 players from Canada, the Caribbean and Latin America.
This year's coaching staff included Omar Cook (Cleveland Cavaliers), Rick Higgins (Utah Jazz), Jodie Meeks (New Orleans Pelicans), Zachary Peterson (Charlotte Hornets), Lester Quiñones (New Orleans Pelicans), Greivis Vasquez (NBA Legend) and Ty Young (Chicago Sky) with Brian Serrano of the Chicago Bulls acting as the camp coach.
The campers went through three days of on-court development, 5-on-5 games and life-skills development programming.
In the game action during the camp, Scott played for the Charlotte team that reached the Championship Game, averaging 6.1 points and registering a single game high of 16 points. But the game competition was won by Utah, which included Marlon Martinez of Dominican Republic, who scored 14 points in a 48-24 win over Charlotte and finished second in scoring average with 6.9 points per game.
Also on the winning Utah team were Diego Minero (El Salvador), Myles Fuentes (Puerto Rico), K'Nard Callender (Virgin Islands), Pedro Figueiredo (Brazil), Paul Osaruyi (Canada), Roman Moravansky (Argentina), Benjamin Pettovello (Argentina), Jehmsel Valencia (Colombia) and Stefan Ilic (Canada).
Canadian Nathan Yambayamba was the leading scorer of the event with 7.7 points per game including 14 points in the Semi-finals over New Orleans.
Canadian Deng Ngor was honored as the Defensive MVP of the camp. Maxime Meyer of Canada was given the Patrick Baumann Sportsmanship Award and Brazilian Pedro Figueiredo was the 3-Point Champion.
