Things are finally heating up for Henry Cavill's reboot. Not only does the new movie have the Man of Steel star behind it, but Highlander is being directed by John Wick's Chad Stahelski, and Gladiator's Russel Crowe also recently joined the cast. Things appear to be moving forward swiftly for the Highlander reboot. Not only does it begin production in September, but the project has just added another talented actor to its cast. Cavill and Crowe are big established names, but the newest cast member is a rising talent in the industry, and made a name for herself in the hit series, well... Industry.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, Highlander has added Marisa Abela to its cast. The British actress is best known for her role in Industry, in which she plays failed investment banker Yasmin Kara-Hanani. She is also known for appearing in Cobra, Black Bag, Barbie, and for portraying the late Amy Winehouse in 2024's Back to Black, for which she won the BAFTA Rising Star Award.

"There Can Be Only One": Major Casting Update on Henry Cavill's Long-Awaited 80s Action Fantasy Reboot Is Super For DC Fans

Henry Cavill will be keeping it in the DC family in the reboot of this classic 80s fantasy thanks to an epic piece of casting news.

The report also teased some key details about Marisa Abela's character in the Highlander reboot. While Cavill will play MacLeod and Crowe is taking over from Sean Connery as Ramirez, Abela will play a new character created for the movie. She hasn't yet been given a name, but the Industry star has "a leading role" in the film, and her character has been described as "an immortal who is a teacher of swordplay and one of MacLeod’s past loves."

When the rebooted movie was first rumored to be in development, most fans never thought it would get this far. Then, when Henry Cavill officially signed on to the project, the collective fan base lost its mind.

The script for the Highlander reboot is currently being written by Michael Finch. According to the report, the reboot will make some big alterations to the 1986 original, directed by Russell Mulcahy. Some sources state that the new film will feature even more immortals who will come from across the globe, not just an Egyptian pretending to be Spanish, played by a Scottish actor. Although Abela's casting has left fans of the original once again asking the same question: Will any Scottish people play Scottish characters in the film?

The Highlander reboot will also fix the biggest issue with the original movies. The films follow a group of immortal warriors, but the fight scenes have aged worse than some Mel Brooks comedies. That's where Chad Stahelski and the 87North production team come in. Stahelski is best known for directing all four John Wick movies, and he will lend his signature style of action design to the new Highlander. Add to that the swordsmanship that Henry Cavill picked up from Netflix's The Witcher, and Highlander's reboot looks more promising each day.
