Heavy rain set to drench 3 divisions
The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has warned of heavy rain in three divisions in Bangladesh under the influence of south-west seasonal winds.
The BMD alert said that parts of the Chattogram, Khulna, and Barishal divisions may see extremely heavy rain in the 24 hours from 10am on Sunday.
Usually, 1-10mm of rain over a 24-hour period is considered light rain, 11-22mm is considered moderate, 23-43mm is considered moderately heavy, 44-88mm is considered heavy, and over 88mm is considered very heavy.
The BMD has also warned that the very heavy rain could trigger landslides in parts of Chattogram’s hill areas.
The alert added that parts of Chattogram city could be waterlogged due to the rain.
The BMD has instructed the four maritime ports in the country – Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra – to maintain local cautionary signal No. 3 since Thursday.
The regular bulletin signed by Meteorologist AKM Nazmul Haque says that most of the Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions and many parts of the Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka and Mymensingh divisions may experience temporary gusty winds accompanied by moderate rain or thunderstorms in the 24 hours from 9am on Sunday.
Parts of the Khulna, Barrishal, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions may also see moderately heavy, heavy, and even very heavy rain in some areas.
The day and night temperatures across Bangladesh are likely to stay relatively unchanged, the bulletin added.
