Mysuru: Even though the rain took a small break on Tuesday, normal life remained disrupted in the Mysuru region. Meanwhile, the forest department decided to shut two safari routes in the Nagarahole Tiger Reserve owing to heavy rain from Wednesday.According to the forest department authorities, due to incessant rainfall in Kodagu district, it became very difficult for the safari vehicles to traverse the forest roads in the Nagarahole safari zone. From Wednesday onwards, the safari was stopped from Nanachi and Veeranahosahalli gates of Nagarahole Tiger Reserve until further notice. However, the safari from Dammanakatte (Kabini) will continue as usual.With monsoon tour lovers expected to throng to Malnad districts to enjoy the early rain, the forest and police departments are now taking all precautionary measures to ensure no untoward incidents.Meanwhile, the IMD forecasted widespread light rainfall over Malnad districts and isolated moderate rain in Kodagu, Hassan, and Chikkamagaluru districts. Scattered to widespread very light to light rains are likely over the south Karnataka region.
On Tuesday, many non-state syllabus schools in the Mysuru district, which started classes earlier in the month, announced a holiday for the students citing rain.Between 8.30 am on Monday and Tuesday, the highest rain of 195.5 mm was reported from Birunani village in Kodagu district.In Bommenahalli in Mysuru district, three old houses were damaged due to heavy and continuous rain. Officials from the revenue department visited the houses to estimate the damage. Among the eight taluks in Mysuru district, HD Kote taluk recorded 34 mm rainfall, which is the highest in the district.
