A member of the National Democratic Congress, (NDC) Legal and Communications team, Victor Adawudu, has defended Sammy Gyamfi, Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Gold Board, for gifting dollars to popular fetish priestess turned evangelist, Patricia Oduro Kwarteng, popularly known as Nana Agradaa.

Speaking in an interview on Channel One TV and monitored by GhanaWeb on Monday, May 12, 2025, he argued that the recent display of generosity was not an act of showmanship, but a gesture rooted in his character.

He explained that Sammy Gyamfi has long been admired by the youth within the party for his generosity and ability to mobilise them.

“Even before Sammy became the National Communications Officer, he was already engaging the youth, encouraging them to pursue education and get involved in the party, that’s what brought back the energy we now see in our youth base. He is a victim of generosity," he noted.

Adawudu, however, argued that the situation was being misrepresented.

“This wasn’t about showmanship. It wasn’t a planned spectacle. It was an instinctive act of kindness, perhaps to someone who requested help at a funeral. Unfortunately, someone filmed it and spun it differently,” he explained.

He further pointed out that the woman in question is known for staging public drama.

“If you look carefully, the woman flaunting the dollars is the one calling herself Evangelist Agradaa. This is someone known for theatrics and attention-seeking. It’s important to separate her performance from Sammy’s genuine act,” he added.

He acknowledged that greater discretion could have been exercised.

“Yes, he has security, but you can’t always predict what happens in crowded, public events like funerals. Someone might walk up, ask for help, and he decides to be generous. That’s who Sammy is, and for me, that’s a great and painful lesson, we must all learn from it," he added.

The Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, has since summoned Sammy Gyamfi, to explain the circumstances of the incident.

On Sunday May 11, 2025, a video surfaced in which Sammy Gyamfi was seen handing an undisclosed amount of US dollars to Nana Agradaa.

The footage, believed to have been taken during a funeral, showed Agradaa and her husband in close proximity as the money was handed over, sparking accusations of showmanship and raising ethical questions regarding Gyamfi’s conduct as a public figure.
