The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) on Tuesday officially inaugurated Haruna Yahaya as its 61st president during an investiture ceremony held at its head office in Lagos.

Yahaya takes over from Davidson Alaribe, whose tenure saw the expansion of ICAN’s presence across Nigeria. In his valedictory address, Alaribe noted that under his leadership, the Institute opened 26 District Societies, of which 24 were inaugurated.

Dignitaries in attendance included representatives from various levels of government and professional bodies. Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu was represented by the state Accountant-General, Dr. Abiodun Muritala.

Other guests included the Deputy Governor of Jigawa State, Aminu Usman; the Attorney General of Jigawa State, Abdulqadir Fanini; the Executive Secretary of the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria, Dr. Rabiu Olowo; the President of the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria, Zuwaira Kishimi; and the President of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria, Professor Pius Olanrewaju.

The event marked the formal commencement of Yahaya’s leadership, as he assumed responsibility for steering the affairs of the Institute in the coming year.
