- Strong gusty winds will be felt across the D.C. region ahead of Groundhog Day on Sunday.

FOX 5's Gwen Tolbart says a cloudy start will be expected throughout the weekend with sunshine peaking through by the afternoon. High pressure continues to keep us dry behind the departing Friday rain.

Temperatures are anticipated to be in the upper 40's. Chilly, gusty Northwest winds are kicking in a few wind chills. A cold night ahead with lows in the 20's and skies becoming partly cloudy.

The gusty winds could impact recovery operations on the Potomac from Wednesday's air crash as they have resulted in a small craft advisory being issued until 10 p.m. tonight.

Groudhog Day will kick off with lots of clouds and cooler temperatures. Highs are expected to return to the 40s.

The pressing question is: will the groundhog see its shadow? The Old Farmer's Almanac predicts it will not. If not, that will mean early spring.
