Gov't will not tolerate lawlessness masquerading as protest - DP Kindiki
Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has stated that the Kenya Kwanza administration is prepared to sacrifice its political popularity to safeguard the country from descending into chaos and lawlessness.
Speaking at an empowerment program in Mavoko, Machakos County, Kindiki stated that the government is committed to ensuring national stability and will not tolerate acts of lawlessness disguised as protests.
His remarks come in the wake of sustained Gen Z-led demonstrations across the country, with youth voicing discontent over governance and economic issues.
DP Kindiki condemned acts of vandalism and looting that have accompanied some protests, emphasizing that while the government respects freedom of speech and the right to peaceful assembly, it will not allow criminal elements to hijack the demonstrations.
He also called on Kenyans to respect the men and women in uniform, describing police officers as key pillars in safeguarding the country’s safety and order.
Prof Kindiki reiterated that the government remains committed to empowering all Kenyans through inclusive development initiatives, regardless of their political affiliation.
Among the major initiatives is the revival of the Kazi Mtaani programme, which is set to resume next month across the country.
Additionally, the Deputy President unveiled the Nyota Project, a youth empowerment scheme targeting skills development and entrepreneurship support for thousands of young Kenyans.
He said the project will help address youth unemployment and give the younger generation hope and purpose.
On the contentious land valuation issue at Portland KCB, Prof. Kindiki assured residents that the government is working to resolve the matter.
On kmc njoguini land which was originally allocated to the public by the City Council, is reportedly under the Kenya Meat Commission (KMC) and being managed by Kenya Defence Forces leading to a long-standing ownership dispute as they are on on eviction notice, prof Kindiki said the government will sort it out as soon as possible.
He reaffirmed the Kenya Kwanza administration’s commitment to implementing the bottom-up economic model, saying the time to deliver on campaign promises to hustlers has come.
