The National Treasury has increased funding for key governance and anti-corruption institutions for the 2025/2026 financial year, underscoring the government’s renewed commitment to accountability, justice, and integrity in public service.

In his budget statement to Parliament, Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi proposed a total allocation of KSh 99.6 billion for institutions promoting good governance, justice, and oversight—an increase of KSh 6.5 billion from the KSh 93.1 billion allocated for the 2024/2025 financial year.

Breakdown of Allocations: The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) received KSh 4.5 billion (up from KSh 4.2 billion), while the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) was allocated KSh 4.5 billion (up from KSh 4.0 billion). The State Law Office received KSh 5.3 billion (down from KSh 6.9 billion), and the Office of the Auditor General was allocated KSh 8.7 billion (unchanged).

Meanwhile, Parliament received an additional KSh 3.4 billion, raising their allocation to KSh 48.0 billion from KSh 44.6 billion last year. The Judiciary also saw an increase, receiving an extra KSh 3.1 billion, bringing its budget to KSh 27.8 billion this year compared to KSh 24.7 billion in the 2024/2025 budget.

The increased funding for the Judiciary includes resources to support automation, expand court infrastructure, and enhance the delivery of justice, aligning with the government’s vision for a more responsive and digitised justice system.

CS Mbadi emphasised that corruption and the mismanagement of public resources continue to threaten the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), asserting that the government is focused on institutional reforms, legal frameworks, and resource allocations to combat these issues.

He highlighted that a well-resourced Parliament and Judiciary are essential for sustaining democratic governance, enforcing accountability, and safeguarding public resources.
