Ginger & Scallion Khao soi is Ginger & Scallion's sole dish, and that's good enough

Published 1 week ago1 minute read

After serving only Hainan chicken rice when it first opened, Ginger & Scallion abruptly pivoted to a khao soi restaurant. Having a strong hankering for said noodle soup is a prerequisite for enjoying a meal here, but if anything’s going to get us in the mood, it’s this place. The coconut broth is comforting, pickled mustard greens add a tart bite, and proteins are cooked well, be it sliced seared duck or earthy braised lamb. Though in truth we miss the chicken, the bare-bones Phinney Ridge spot with just a handful of tables is still a solid lunch or casual weeknight dinner option in its latest form.

Our favorite of the bunch. The duck is seared with robot levels of precision, with spiced edges and a soft pink middle. Each slice tastes particularly good submerged in creamy curry.

Same exact bowl, only the duck gets Ctrl+Alt+Deleted in favor of braised lamb. The meat's a little bit on the dry side, but tastes great, so let it soak in the sauce for a moment before diving in.
