Gearbox boss responds to concern of $80 price for Borderlands 4, "If you're a real fan, you'll find a way"
Since the Nintendo Switch 2 was announced on April 2, there has been a lot of concern about the future of the price of games. Mario Kart World will be the first major AAA game to cost $80, and fans are concerned about games like Borderlands 4 costing the same amount.
A fan responded to Randy Pitchford, the CEO of Gearbox, who shared the Nintendo Creators’ Voice video of Borderlands 4, hoping the game won’t cost $80. Pitchford responded to the fan, @Oldgoldsot, saying that the price is not his decision and that
The Gearbox boss goes on to say that his local game store had Starflight for Sega Genesis for $80 in 1991 when he was just out of high school, working minimum wage at an ice cream parlor in Pismo Beach, and he found a way to make it happen.
Borderlands 4 is releasing on September 12, 2025. The release date moved up 11 days because development had been going very well. Borderlands 4 is also expected to release on the Switch 2 in 2025, but it will not be on day one.
Borderlands 4 will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC the day it releases.
