Gas cylinder explosion in flat at Mohammadwadi injures family of 4 in Pune | Pune News - Times of India
Pune: A couple and their two children suffered serious burn injuries after the gas cylinder exploded in their flat at Sai Colony in Mohammadwadi around 5am on Wednesday.The injured were identified as Tekchand Singh Chavan (42), wife Baby (42), daughter Kashish (18) and son Nilesh (15).
They are recuperating at the Sassoon General Hospital. "Chavan and his wife sustained 70% burn injuries and slipped into a coma.
The daughter and son have sustained 30% burn injuries," said Kalepadal police's senior inspector Mansing Patil.Patil said, "Before slipping into the coma, Baby told the hospital's medical officer that the domestic LPG cylinder in their house started to leak because she had had not switched off the knob.
The cylinder exploded when she tried to light the gas stove."The explosion shattered window panes, while clothes, tables and chairs caught fire. The victims' neighbours doused the fire by throwing water from buckets. Later, a fire tender reached the spot and doused the blaze completely within 10 minutes, he said.The Chavans are from Uttar Pradesh and had taken the flat on rent around 10 days ago, he added.
