In a significant development on Friday, May 2, 2025, Emir Sanusi II formally conducted the turbaning ceremony of Alhaji Munir Sanusi at the historic Gidan Rumfa Palace in Kano. The event was attended by Kano state governor Abba Kabir Yusuf alongside his cabinet members, Kano Emirate Council members loyal to Emir Sanusi, district heads, and traditional title holders.

The event was marked by pomp and traditional regalia, with loyalists of the 15th Emir in full attendance.

These twin ceremonies held simultaneously at Gidan Rumfa and Gidan Nasarawa underscored the deepening division within the Kano Emirate following the reinstatement of Muhammad Sanusi II in 2024, after his dethronement in 2020, which is presently a subject of a court action

Both emirs now exercise parallel authority, plunging traditional leadership in Kano into an unprecedented state of uncertainty.
