The 15th Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, has appointed his elder brother, Alhaji Sanusi Ado Bayero, as the new Galadiman Kano following the death of Abbas Sanusi.

Late Abbas Sanusi, a respected elder in the emirate, passed away in March 2025 after a prolonged illness, leaving one of the Emirate’s most senior and symbolic titles vacant.

The appointment of Alhaji Sanusi Ado Bayero, conveyed in a letter signed by Senior Administrative Officer Alhaji Awaisu Abbas Sanusi, followed a Kano Emirate Council meeting chaired by the Emir Aminu Ado Bayero on Wednesday, April 16, 2025.

Sanusi Ado Bayero, previously crowned as Ciroman Kano and District Head of Gwale by their father, Emir Ado Bayero, was once considered the natural successor after his father died in 2014.

However, his nephew, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, was eventually crowned Emir, prompting Sanusi Ado to leave Kano in protest.

Following the restructuring of the Kano Emirate and the ascension of Aminu Ado Bayero as Emir in July 2020, Sanusi Ado was reinstated into the council as Wamban Kano.

A law graduate and member of the Nigerian Bar since 1984, Sanusi Ado served in the Kano State Civil Service, rising to the position of permanent secretary. He later became Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority until his removal in 2015.

It is noteworthy that former Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II had also appointed Mannir Sanusi as Galadiman Kano, indicating that two factions within the Kano Emirate are managing separate traditional structures.
